Price Gouging Targets Fire Refugees
Even as homes in LA still burn, residents are reporting that landlords, retailers, hotels, and other businesses are taking advantage of the disaster and raising prices for basic needs.
In California, the law prohibits "price gouging," or raising prices by more than 10%, during a state of emergency. This law applies to things like:

-
Food
-
Rent
-
Hotel rooms
-
Gas
-
Medical supplies
-
Building materials
-
Transportation
-
Storage
-
Emergency cleanup supplies

EKO set a precedent as the first law firm to win class certification in a price gouging case in California. Now, we are investigating claims that businesses have raised their prices above the legal limit following the devastating fires sweeping through Southern California.
